Frequently Asked Questions

At Christiana, our life together is shaped by our mission: Christ Centered – Spirit Led – Ministry Focused.
Whether you are visiting for the first time, returning to church after many years, or searching for a church home, we are grateful you are here and would be honored to welcome you!

What time is worship?
We gather for worship each Sunday at 10:30am, with opportunities for Bible study, fellowship, and Christian education at various times during the week. We invite you to join us as we gather around God’s Word and the gifts of His grace!

What should I wear?
Please come as you are. Some people come dressed more formally, while others wear casual clothes. You will see everything from jeans to Sunday best. What matters most is not what you wear, but that you come to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

What is your worship service like?
Our worship is centered on Christ and rooted in the historic liturgy of the Church. You can expect Scripture readings, prayer, congregational hymns, confession and forgiveness, a Christ-centered sermon, and the celebration of Holy Communion. Everything we do in worship is shaped by God’s Word and points us to Jesus. Check out this page for more information on the flow of our service, or tune into our Worship Live Stream on Facebook!

How long does the service last?
Our worship service typically lasts about one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes.

Will I be singled out as a visitor?
You will NOT be "singled out",  but you will be loved! We want your visit to feel peaceful and welcoming. You are invited to simply come, worship, and receive the comfort of God’s presence with us. However, our congregation loves visitors and will probably come up to introduce themselves- they might invite you to sit with them!

Are children welcome in worship?
Absolutely! Jesus says verbatim in Matthew 19:14: “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Children are a cherished part of the life of our congregation and are always welcome in worship. We rejoice in the presence of families and the sound of young voices in the Lord’s house.

Do you have nursery or childcare available?
Yes we do! If you are in need of the services of the nursery, feel free to let one of the ushers know. However, children are always welcome to remain in worship with their families, and we are glad to have them with us.

Do you offer Sunday School or youth ministries?
Yes. We offer Sunday School for ALL ages, beginning at 9:15 each Sunday morning. A member of the Nehemiah Team will greet you as you enter, and will gladly guide you to where these classes take place on church campus. We also have a Children's Church that takes place after the Children's Sermon during the worship service. Our "C3" (Christiana Christ Club) Youth Program is growing; we meet at least monthly in a wide variety of ways!

Are you a "Bible-Believing" Church that is grounded in the Gospel?
Yes. As a congregation of the NALC, we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. We believe the Holy Scriptures are the inspired and inerrant Word of God and the final authority for faith and life.

What does it mean that you are a "Lutheran" church?
We fully embrace the traditions of the Christian faith and the teachings of the Reformation, centered on the saving work of Jesus Christ. We believe that sinners are justified by grace through faith, and that God continues to come to His people through Word and Sacrament (Scripture, Baptism, Holy Communion)

Can I talk with the pastor if I have questions?
Absolutely! Whether you have questions about faith, worship, life, or becoming part of the church family, our pastor would be honored to visit with you. He's also a "millennial", and absolutely LOVES to call, text, and/or email in addition to face -to-face conversation.

Who may receive Holy Communion?
All who are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who believe that the true body and blood of Christ are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine, are welcome to receive Holy Communion at Christiana. We believe that in this Sacrament, Jesus truly comes to His people with forgiveness, life, and salvation.

What if my child or I do not wish to (or cannot) receive Communion?
Non-communing children and adults are warmly invited to come forward during Communion to receive a blessing from the Pastor. This is a beautiful way to participate in the life of worship and to be included in the gift of God's grace.

Do I need to be a member to attend worship and church-wide events?
Not at all. Visitors are always welcome to join us for worship, fellowship, and study. Remember- at some point, EACH person in our congregation attended Christiana for the very first time.

What if I have not been to church in a long time?
No matter what, you are always welcome here. Whether it has been months or many years, Christ’s invitation remains open. We would be overjoyed to walk with you as you look to grow in your faith!

What if I am visiting from another denomination?
You are warmly welcome. Many who visit us come from a variety of church backgrounds (Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Non-Denominational, Presbyterian, Episcopal, etc.). We are glad to answer any questions you may have about our worship and beliefs, and we welcome you into our midst no matter what church or denomination you've been a part of before.

Are visitors required to give an offering?

No. If you are visiting, please do not feel any obligation to give. Your presence with us is a blessing. However, just as 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 reminds us, believers are encouraged to give to the ministry of the Church with a "cheerful heart".

How can I request prayer?
We would be honored to pray for you. Prayer requests may be shared through the church office, with the pastor, or during worship. We also can receive prayer requests through the Contact Us section here on this website!

Do you offer pastoral visits?
Yes. Our pastor is available for home visits, hospital visits, nursing home ministry, and prayer with those who are homebound or in need of spiritual care. If you would like a Pastoral Visit, please contact the Church Office during the Week, or speak with Pastor Lucas on Sunday Morning before or after the Worship Service.

How can I get involved?
There are many opportunities to serve through worship, outreach, fellowship, and ministry in our community! We would love to help you find a place to use your gifts in Christ’s service. Reach out to a church member on Sunday, or contact the Church Office on Tues-Fri from 9:00am-2:00pm.
